A horrific car accident between a Kano Line passenger bus and a tanker near Darki town in Kano State’s Wudil Local Government Area claimed the lives of at least 12 individuals.
The state went into mourning after learning that the horrific event happened on Monday, October 27, along the major Kano–Gombe Road.
According to reports, the collision occurred when a tanker driver abruptly turned in the middle of the highway while working on a road construction project.
Unable to avoid the blockage, the passenger bus headed for Kano collided with the tanker, instantly killing several people.
In a statement provided to reporters, Alhaji Sa’idu Abdullahi Shu’aibu, Director of Kano Line, acknowledged the incident and revealed that the bus was transporting sixteen people.
“Twelve of the sixteen passengers on board, including two of our drivers, Alhaji Sabo and Alhaji Dan Azumi, reportedly died instantly,” Shu’aibu stated.
He said that five other people—four women and one man—were taken to a neighboring hospital for immediate medical attention after suffering serious injuries.
Shu’aibu expressed his sympathies to the lost families and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, characterizing the occurrence as a massive loss.
We are devastated by this terrible incident. The families of the victims are in our prayers. “May Almighty Allah grant the wounded a speedy recovery and the departed eternal rest,” he said.
Stricter traffic safety regulations, especially in the vicinity of road construction projects, were demanded by the head of Kano Line.
In order to minimize preventable tragedies, he emphasized the necessity for better traffic regulation and driver awareness.
Since then, authorities have started looking into what caused the incident in order to determine who was at fault and prevent it from happening again.
