In the general elections scheduled for 2027, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has voiced hope that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be able to retake Kano State.
According to reports, Akpabio claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win if key party leaders led the effort, including Senator Basheer Lado, Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy Senate President, and Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC.
“Ahead of 2027, we are confident that with Senator Barau, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and your strategic self, Kano is already in the kitty of APC,” Akpabio said in a statement released on Thursday, underscoring the party’s strong position for the next elections.
Akpabio also addressed recent reports that Senator Lado, when serving as President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Senate matters, leaked confidential information between the Senate and the administration.
He vehemently refuted these accusations, calling Lado’s performance “excellent.”
“I want to state for the record that since Senator Lado became President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on National Assembly (Senate Matters), there hasn’t been a single instance of private correspondence between the Senate and the Presidency leaking,” Akpabio said.

We have not experienced any leaks. That’s what we refer to as the right to know in government. Naturally, national security is badly impacted when government business is conducted through information leaks on social media and newspaper pages.
Further praising Lado’s role in improving the coordination between the legislative and executive branches, Akpabio continued by thanking him for enabling easy communication between them.
“Overall, your performance in office over the past eight months is unprecedented and is strengthening and rewarding the executive-legislative synergy for the benefit of all,” Akpabio continued.
Senator Lado responded by saying
appreciation of Akpabio’s leadership, emphasizing how important the Senate President is to the President’s program.
