Omowunmi gave an emotional tribute during the 17th Headies Awards.
The event was held on April 27 at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.
Mohbad won two posthumous awards: Best Street Music (Street-hop Artiste) of the Year and Viewer’s Choice.
Omowunmi, the widow of late Nigerian music singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, reduced attendees to tears during her poignant tribute at the 17th Headies Awards on Sunday, April 27 at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.
Mohbad received two posthumous awards: Best Street Music (Street-hop Artiste) of the Year and Viewer’s Choice for his collaboration with Chike on the smash song “Egwu.” Omowunmi offered a moving speech as she accepted the award on his behalf, reflecting on her husband’s lasting impact. She explained that she refuses to refer to Mohbad as her “late husband” since, in her opinion, he lives on, particularly via their small son, Liam.

She stated her hope that Liam, who is still too young to properly understand his father’s legacy, will one day recognize the significant impact Mohbad made on the world.
“On behalf of myself, my son Liam, my husband’s immediate younger brother Adura, and the rest of the Imonelization family, we want to specially thank you for this award,” according to her.
She continued, “Although Mohbad is no longer with us, he lives on. I don’t like to refer to him as my late spouse since he lives on, particularly via our son Liam. Although he may be too young to understand the magnitude of his father’s greatness, I know and believe that one day he will. Thanks so much, Headies. Thank you for shining the light on my hubby. Thank you for honoring his memory and legacy. It means a lot to me, his kid, and the whole Imonelization.”
Omowunmi’s touching eulogy highlighted Mohbad’s long-lasting effect and the deep love that surrounds his legacy.
