On Wednesday, portions of Plateau State’s well-known Jos Terminus Market were devastated by an early-morning fire breakout.
Hundreds of stalls and items were reduced to ashes as the fire burned into the night, surprising many shopkeepers.
An unnamed witness said that the fire began in the market’s second-hand clothing area before quickly spreading to other areas.
At the time this report was filed, the precise cause of the fire was still unknown.
Firefighters reportedly arrived at the scene soon after the fire started, but they had trouble controlling the situation.
Distressed merchants and business owners were observed crying at the scene as of the time this report was filed, helplessly watching as their investments burned to the ground.
A few of the victims bemoaned the fact that they had filled their stores with new merchandise only to lose everything in an instant.

Since sentiments were strong among the impacted merchants and supporters, security forces were also sent to the scene to manage the swarming mob and stop looting.
Although authorities have not yet released an official statement on the fire event, it is anticipated that the Plateau State government will begin an inquiry to determine what caused the fire.
In order to lessen the impact of their losses, impacted traders are requesting immediate assistance and relief.
Tearful, Aminu Bala declared, “We urgently need government intervention.”
“I am finished,” declared another victim, who only provided his name as Adamu.
