Funke Akindele, a Nigerian Box-Office Queen, has spoken out about being criticized for not having a husband after her marriage to Music Executive Abdurasheed Bello, popularly known as JJC Skillz, ended.
According to reports, at the first live episode of the ‘WithChude’ podcast, the movie star stated that she has always been aware that therapy is important, but has never submitted herself due to concerns about her personal life being shared publicly.
Funke claimed to be a tough woman, but she broke down in tears after seeing a video of being criticized for not having a husband, and she sought help from a doctor.
She recommended folks to seek therapy and to speak up.
She stated, “I’ve always known that treatment is necessary, but I never committed to it. I’d say, “I don’t want anyone to hear about me.” They’ll go and spread the word. But I was dying quietly because I was acting strong. Every time I shown strength, they threw more at me—at home, from family, at work, and in society. Many people look to you as a role model. I’m a very powerful individual. I have that strength, God. Yes, I would maintain a forceful expression. When Mum died, I lost everything, including my prayer partner, politics, backlash, and insults.

“I watched one video. They were teasing me, saying I didn’t have a husband. Women are dancing and ridiculing me. I had a breakdown. I cried a lot. Then I told myself, “You should talk to someone about this.” You cannot continue in this manner. You understand the importance of speaking up?
And I stretched out and began speaking. I felt much better. I told my therapist things I couldn’t say to others. And now I feel better. So, I’d like to advise you: speak up. Yes.”
