In their forthcoming match on Sunday, Chelsea will honor the defending champions, Liverpool, with a guard of honor, according to Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.
Chelsea was Liverpool’s most serious rival for the Premier League title for a large chunk of the current campaign.
However, a string of unsatisfactory outcomes, including as defeats to Fulham and Ipswich during the hectic Christmas season, interrupted Maresca’s campaign and ultimately made it more difficult for them to secure the top spot.
Maresca explained the significance of this custom in light of the guard of honor, saying he wants his players to internalize the gesture’s meaning in addition to understanding its relevance.
With the words, “One day, I would like to be there,” he encouraged his team to consider the ambition and hinted at a long-term objective of contending for the championship again.

Chelsea is still aiming to qualify for the Champions League as they get ready to play Arne Slot’s Liverpool team.
Maresca is confident in his team’s future despite the current point gap between them and the Merseysiders.
“The distance between us and Liverpool is clear, but I think we’re moving in the right direction,” he said. I’m hoping that this disparity can keep getting smaller.
Maresca highlighted the importance of the guard of honor, saying, “It’s a tradition we must uphold.” They truly deserve this accolade because they won the Premier League.
