After police stopped a planned bombing at a Lady Gaga concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Saturday night, two people were taken into custody.
According to the Brazilian police, the scheme was planned by a group that supports hate speech and young radicalization.
Authorities claim that the suspects targeted LGBTQ+ individuals at Gaga’s historic performance at Copacabana Beach, which drew over 2 million people.

Felipe Cury, the Rio police secretary, stated during a press conference on Sunday that “they were obviously saying that they were planning an attack at Lady Gaga’s concert motivated by sexual orientation.”
In order to “avoid panic” and “the distortion of information,” police at the time disclosed nothing about the purported plot.
With 5,200 military and police officials stationed at the beach where fans were enjoying the pop singer’s famous hits, including “Born This Way,” which became an anthem for the LGBTQ community after its debut in 2011, security was strict at the concert on Saturday.
In response to the planned attack, Lady Gaga’s team claims to have learned about it from media sources.
“There were no known safety concerns prior to and during the show, nor any communication from the police or authorities to Lady Gaga regarding any potential risks,” a team spokeswoman stated.
The spokesperson went on to say that “all parties were confident in the safety measures in place and the team worked closely with law enforcement throughout the planning and execution of the concert.”
