According to reports, Simon Agbo, an official with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), was kidnapped by gunmen in Makurdi, Benue State.
According to family sources, Agbo and two neighbors were outside his house on Sunday at approximately 7:5 p.m. when the incident happened.
After firing multiple shots into the air to frighten away locals, the gunmen entered the area behind Modern Market, opposite NKST Church, Kuan, and took the officer at gunpoint.
After being redeployed from Kwara State to the Benue State Command in February, the victim was kidnapped and taken to an unidentified location.
Massive searches were conducted by community teenagers and vigilante organizations to ensure his release, but his kidnappers managed to get away.

According to Agbo’s younger brother, there were suspicions since one of the neighbors kept asking the police to go back home that night.
He persisted in calling, demanding that my brother divulge his location or return home. When the terrorists struck, they were outside conversing, and they solely targeted my brother,” he added.
Since then, the neighbor has been taken into custody by the police while they do additional investigation.
The family has been contacted by his kidnappers, who are requesting N20 million in ransom.
As of the time this story was filed, attempts to verify the occurrence with NIS personnel and CSP Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, had failed.
