After being formally designated as a “undesirable person” by the South African Department of Home Affairs, Omotoso was expelled from the nation on May 18, 2025. The clerk was led by police and immigration officials at OR Tambo International Airport as he boarded a flight headed for Nigeria, according to a widely circulated video.
This development follows Omotoso’s acquittal on 32 counts, including rape and human trafficking, in April 2025. His legal issues began when he was detained in 2017 and held for almost eight years before being exonerated of all charges.
Over the years, the case had garnered a lot of public interest, and the final acquittal sparked discussion and controversy about the legal system and how it affected the accused as well as the putative victims.
