Arsenal have secured a major summer signing, reaching a full agreement with Sporting CP for the transfer of Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres. According to The Athletic, the deal is valued at £64 million, including performance-related add-ons.

Initial negotiations had settled on a package of £54.8 million upfront, with an additional £8.6 million in bonuses. However, discussions stalled over the specifics of those contingent payments, leaving the deal in doubt for several weeks.

Arsenal have been in the market for a proven striker, identifying Gyokeres as their top target following his prolific season with Sporting. Despite their strong interest, finalizing the deal proved challenging. The situation became more tense when Gyokeres refused to report for pre-season training, allegedly threatening to go on strike to force the move through.

Sporting president Frederico Varandas had responded sternly, hinting at possible sanctions against the 27-year-old forward if he continued to defy club orders.

Nonetheless, both clubs have now come to terms, and the transfer is expected to be completed pending final medicals and paperwork. Gyokeres’ arrival is set to bolster Arsenal’s attacking options as they prepare for a new Premier League campaign and Champions League return.

The Swedish international will become one of Arsenal’s most expensive signings, marking a statement of intent from Mikel Arteta’s side as they look to challenge Manchester City for the title once again. More details on the official unveiling are expected in the coming days.
