Ayra Starr Rejects Rumours Claiming Roc Nation Deal Bars Her from Dating

Superstar of the Afrobeats genre Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, better known by her stage name Ayra Starr, has responded to rumors that she will not be able to have a lover or a family for the next five years.
According to reports, the singer just inked a five-year management contract with Roc Nation, controlled by Jay-Z, a.k.a. American music executive Sean Carter.
Rumors circulated in various media outlets after the news that she was prohibited from dating or starting a family by a provision in her most recent five-year deal with Roc Nation.

In a video that went viral on X, a podcaster asserted that Ayra Starr was prohibited from dating or starting a family during her five-year contract with Roc Nation.

Ayra Starr wrote, “Does Ayra Starr know about this?” in response to the video.

The singer further confirmed that the allegation was false by reposting a tweet that said, “They lie on top of your head for broad daylight.”

Ayra Starr, meantime, has shared the backstory of a picture she snapped at the Met Gala on her first appearance.

According to reports, the 23-year-old singer, who was present at the 2025 edition of the well-known fashion event in New York, said that one of her most talked-about photos was taken in the restroom with fellow R&B musician and American singer Coco Jones.

Despite being in the picture alongside Tems, who is also African, she jokingly thought of herself as the first African to take a restroom selfie at the Met Gala, describing the experience as enjoyable.

She claimed to be the first African to take a selfie in the restroom during the MET Gala.

On May 5, a number of African celebrities, including Ayra Starr, walked the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Met Gala.

Author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, fashion stylist Swanky Jerry, Burna Boy, Tems, and South African singer Tyla were among the other guests.
