Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential contender and human rights advocate, was charged by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government on Tuesday.
According to what was understood, Sowore was charged with five counts of posting false information against President Tinubu in an attempt to undermine law and order.
The Sahara Reporters online newspaper’s publisher, Sowore, is in the Federal High Court Abuja courtroom to respond to accusations of engaging in cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and fabricating information on Tinubu.
Two further defendants on the charges are Meta (Facebook) and X. Incorporation.
The post “This criminal @ official PBAT Actually went to Brazil to state that there is no more corruption under his regime in Nigeria” was allegedly made by Sowore using his official X handle. How daring of you to openly lie!
According to the Federal High Court, the alleged infringing post was made on August 25 and was in violation of Section 24(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes Prohibition and Prevention Act 2024.
