Gunmen Shoot Student Amid SUG Elections at Ebonyi University
According to the Ebonyi State Police Command, three individuals have been taken into custody in relation to a shooting incident that injured a student at Ebonyi State University (EBSU) during the Students’ Union Government (SUG) election.
It was understood that the incident took place on campus during the announcement of the election results.
The suspects reportedly tried to sabotage the procedure by shooting into the air to scatter the gathering, according to police reports.
One of the pupils was tragically hit by a bullet and was taken right away for emergency medical attention to the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki.
The police acknowledged that officers on the ground acted quickly to stop the situation from getting worse and to capture the criminals in a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer SP Joshua Ukandu and provided to reporters on Tuesday.
“The suspects were arrested as a result of the prompt action taken by the police officers on the ground. Additionally, a locally manufactured handgun used in the crime was found, according to Ukandu.
The suspects are still being held while the investigation is ongoing, according to the police spokesperson. He promised that after the inquiry is finished, they will be arraigned in court.
The command also reaffirmed to the public and university community its dedication to maintaining safety and order during events on campus.
