As he prepares to be sentenced for two crimes related to prostitution, American music entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs has asked a U.S. judge for mercy.
The rapper, who was cleared of more serious accusations in July, including as sex trafficking and racketeering, is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, October 3, 2025, to have his sentence formally announced, according to reports.
In a lengthy letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs characterized his stay in a federal prison in Brooklyn as both incredibly difficult and life-changing.
He recounted times when he thought of giving up on life while confined with 25 other prisoners for more than a year in claustrophobic conditions without windows or potable water.
He requested that the court take into account his efforts at reform and personal development when deciding on his sentencing.
Additionally, Combs expressed regret for his previous behavior, which included physically abusing singer Cassie Ventura while they were dating.
Prosecutors claimed that Combs’ pattern of destructive behavior included instances of fear, control, and abuse that Ventura and another woman who testified during the trial detailed.
Given the gravity of the offenses and Combs’ prior influence and authority, prosecutors are requesting a minimum of 11 years in jail.
His defense team contended that his penalty should be based on the 13 months he had already spent.
When determining the verdict, Combs requested the judge to consider his family obligations, such as taking care of his seven children and his aging mother who is recuperating from brain surgery.
Combs is scheduled to appear in court before to the sentencing, and his defense team will play a 15-minute video.
The length of the rapper’s incarceration on the two charges of transportation to engage in prostitution will be decided by the judge.
