In Obanla, Kwara State, the Nigerian Army has denied circulating accusations that robbers overran its soldiers and stole more than 30,000 rounds of ammunition and six GPGs.
Bandits were said to have ambushed military units after learning of their upcoming operations against them, according to rumors.
According to the allegation, the bandits also took over 30,000 rounds of ammunition and no fewer than six General Purpose Machine Guns from a joint task team of the Nigerian Army.
Lt. Col. Polycarp Okoye, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Division, responded in a statement on Sunday, calling the allegations inaccurate and deceptive.
Instead, 148 Battalion (Rear) troops, who are now conducting clearance operations throughout Kogi and Kwara States, reported “significant operational successes,” according to Okoye.
He added that two armed robbers were killed and two brand-new AK-47 rifles were found when the army recently established a blocking position near the Kwara-Ekiti border.
A recent internet article that claimed that robbers overran troops and took six GPGs and more than 30,000 rounds of ammo from Obanla, Kwara State, has been rejected by the Nigerian Army as untrue and deceptive.
“The soldiers of 148 Battalion (Rear), who are engaged in continuous clearance operations throughout Kogi and Kwara States, have continued to achieve notable operational accomplishments, despite the spectacular claims.
“The troops established a strong blocking position along the Kwara–Ekiti border axis in a recent engagement, where they recovered two brand-new AK-47 rifles and neutralized two armed bandits,” he stated.
