Senator Jibrin Barau, the Senate’s deputy president, has promised that in the general election of 2027, the people of Kano State and all of northern Nigeria will provide President Bola Tinubu with a great deal of political support in return for his goodwill and progressive gestures.
Barau provided the promise yesterday during the opening of his yearly undergraduate scholarship program at the recently renamed Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano, according to a statement released by his media assistant, Ismail Mudashir.
According to the statement, prominent academic and political figures attended the event, including Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.
ASUU Chairman Comrade Ado Muhammad Abdullahi, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kadage, and Kano State APC Chairman Prince Abdullahi Abbas also praised President Tinubu’s development efforts in the North.
After the proposal had been pending for almost ten years, Barau sent his sincere gratitude to the President for granting the institution’s upgrade from a college to a full-fledged university.
“I want to congratulate Mr. President, our nation’s president, the president of whom we are all proud, the president who loves Nigeria, who loves Kano, and who loves Northern Nigeria,
“We are still incredibly appreciative that he kindly granted our long-standing request to transform this institution into a university.”
He went on to say that President Tinubu’s endorsement demonstrated the administration’s steadfast dedication to human capital development and education.
“The rain that beats you is the real rain,” Barau declared. Mr. President has never been approached or asked for anything, and he has always responded negatively. How come we shouldn’t love him? We must return the favor, and we are awaiting the appropriate moment, which is 2027.
As a sign of respect for northern tradition and leadership characteristics, he also praised Tinubu for accepting the university’s renaming in honor of the late Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, a famous statesman and former Kano minister.
“President Tinubu instantly gave his approval when I proposed naming this institution after our elder statesman. He keeps showing his love and respect for Kano and our soldiers in this way.
With intentions to expand the program throughout the state, Barau announced scholarships for 1,000 students from Kano North Senatorial District, referring to Tinubu as the “grandfather of the institution” and himself as its “father.”
“The foundation of any society is education. There is no reason for any young person to give up if I, as a grandfather and PhD candidate, can keep learning,” he stated.
He reiterated that the best way to empower communities and ensure long-term progress was to make consistent investments in education.
While Minister Yusuf Abdullahi Ata characterized President Tinubu’s actions as proof of his inclusive leadership, APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas praised the president for his interventions in Kano and the North.
Additionally, Vice Chancellor Prof. Kadage praised Barau for his “visionary leadership and unwavering support,” pointing out that the Deputy Senate President’s bill in the National Assembly served as the impetus for the university’s founding.
