Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, has recounted how his administration dealt with the state’s instability and claims that the experience puts him ahead of other candidates vying for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket in the 2027 election.
The state capital, Port Harcourt, was plagued by violent crimes prior to his government taking power, Amaechi claimed in a video clip posted on his Facebook page on Thursday.
In a state where people were being murdered and abducted, I held the office of governor. People were unable to leave Port Harcourt due to the rise in robberies, he claimed.
The former governor reportedly described how his government quickly returned things to normal and boosted social and economic activity in the state.
There were no parties, and hospitals were in dire straits. Men could only find amusement from their wives, but six months after we arrived, we drove the crooks out. We asked people to do whatever they wanted to do when we summoned them back to work and parties, Amaechi stated.
Amaechi emphasized that he was ready for national leadership because of his record in Rivers State, and he claimed to be familiar with the problems Nigeria is currently facing.
Therefore, he said, “I am the only candidate for the party who has served in a state where what we are facing now has faced us, in addition to having experience.”
The former governor insisted that he had an advantage in his campaign for the ADC presidential ticket because of his real-world experience handling crises.
