How Lying About My Age for Three Years Led to Depression – Yemi Alade
According to Nigerian Afrobeat artist Yemi Alade, she previously went through a depressive episode after lying about her age for years.
The award-winning singer said in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo that she had been lying to people about her age for three years before realizing she was actually twenty-five.
Yemi claims that the revelation left her psychologically traumatized and that she found it difficult to accept the reality of her actual age.
“For around three years, I kept answering 22 when someone asked my age. One day, I did the math and discovered that I was already 25.
For a few days, I struggled to digest it, which left me feeling melancholy. For three years, it was insane, and I was unsure of my age. “I said,” she said.
Adding that the experience taught her how quickly self-deception can affect one’s mental health, the “Knack Am” hitmaker called those years a difficult yet enlightening time in her life.
