On Thursday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared that eight of the fourteen political groupings requesting political party registration had fulfilled the requirements to move on to the next round of the process.
At the end of the exercise on October 18, 2025, the eight associations successfully uploaded the necessary data to their dedicated portal, according to a statement from Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner & Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee.
Out of around 171 associations that presented letters of intent to be registered as political parties, the commission had previously pre-qualified 14 of them.
The statement states: “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) held its regular meeting today, Thursday, October 30, 2025, in response to the commission’s earlier update on Thursday, September 11, 2025, on the ongoing process for political party registration. Among other things, the commission reviewed progress made since that announcement.”
“The commission opened its dedicated portal for the submission of necessary documents from Wednesday, September 18 until Friday, October 18, 2025 at midnight, following the briefing for 14 pre-qualified associations on Tuesday, September 17, 2025.
Eight (8) of the fourteen (14) pre-qualified associations had successfully finished uploading all required information and paperwork as of Saturday, October 19, 2025.
All Democratic Alliance (ADA), Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA), Abundance Social Party (ASP), African Alliance Party (AAP), Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Green Future Party (GFP), National Democratic Party (NDP), and Peoples Freedom Party (PFP) are the associations.
The detailed evaluation and verification of the data and documentation each association submits is the next stage in the registration process. This phase will guarantee compliance with the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties (2022).
