In response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning to send American troops to Nigeria due to alleged terrorist assaults on Christians, the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and senior security officials are set to brief the media on Monday afternoon.
The proposal was reportedly revealed by Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), at the monthly National Joint Security Press Briefing in Abuja.
He claimed that the media interaction would address recent claims of genocide and present the official stance of the federal government to Nigerians and the global community.
He said the meeting would also showcase current government initiatives to combat crime and insecurity nationwide.
The joint briefing, which has evolved into a monthly accountability forum, will provide in-depth information about the operations, reforms, and cooperative tactics being carried out by the country’s security agencies, according to Issa-Onilu.
Remember that on October 31, 2025, President Trump issued a statement accusing the Nigerian government of ignoring what he called the “mass killing of Christians” by jihadists.
He threatened to “send troops or carry out air strikes” if Nigeria did not move quickly.
Since then, the Nigerian government, via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has denied the allegations as false and maintained that there is no religious motivation for violence in the nation.
