Peter Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate, has been instructed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State chapter to give up on any ambitions to run for president in 2027, claiming that his political power has diminished.
According to reports, Obi’s failure to deliver his polling unit for the Labour Party during the Anambra governorship election prompted the party to make the statement on Sunday.
Seye Oladejo, a spokesman for the APC Lagos, questioned Obi’s ability to lead Nigeria given that he “cannot command loyalty in his own neighborhood,” mocking his legitimacy as a national candidate.
Obi’s defeat at his polling place, according to Oladejo’s sharply worded speech, is indicative of a broader breakdown of the political momentum that propelled him throughout the 2023 elections.
“A guy has no right to dream of conquering a nation if he cannot win his polling unit. If a man is rejected on the street, he cannot claim acceptance across the country. The deception of a national movement cannot be sold by a man whose strongest base has collapsed, he declared.
“The complete disintegration of the myth around Peter Obi” was what Oladejo said the defeat signified.
“We Hope He Won’t Run Abroad to Beg Again,” the APC said.
“We sincerely hope Mr. Obi will not run to beg for foreign intervention to rescue him from this political free fall, as he has unashamedly attempted in recent times,” the party said, accusing Obi of seeking foreign intervention in response to local defeats. Nigeria’s democracy is not a toy for desperate politicians who have been turned down at home and are looking for sympathy overseas.
Oladejo claimed that Obi is “granting contradictory interviews and hiding behind hashtags that collapse at the ballot box,” in contrast to President Bola Tinubu, who is consolidating administration.
He said, “Peter Obi is busy seeking international validation while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is rebuilding institutions, fixing the economy, expanding infrastructure, attracting foreign investments, and restoring global confidence.”
Oladejo emphasized that Nigerians won’t trust their future to someone who doesn’t have the support of his own base.
“Peter Obi should forget about 2027 if his polling unit is not trustworthy. He declared, “Nigerians will not give their destiny to a man whose own people have loudly withdrawn their confidence.”
“Symbolic, conclusive, and prophetic,” he continued, the APC’s triumph in Obi’s polling unit represented “the national mood.”
The Lagos APC said, “Performance is triumphing over propaganda; structure is defeating chaos; delivery is destroying deception.” Before portraying himself as a national fixer, Obi should deal with the problems inside his political base.
“Peter Obi should avoid adding more drama to the country. Before he pretends to be able to fix Nigeria, let him first repair the political harm at his doorstep, Oladejo remarked.
According to reports, as parties and stakeholders prepare for the 2027 general election, the comments exacerbate the growing political tensions.
