Senate President Godswill Akpabio stated on Saturday that President Bola Tinubu is extremely disturbed by the ongoing killings in Plateau State and around Nigeria, saying that the violence has caused suffering for both the government and the country.
Speaking at the official reception of political defectors into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State at Jos Polo Field, Akpabio stated that the President is committed to reestablishing harmony and guaranteeing the safety of locals.
As Tinubu’s representative at the ceremony, Akpabio remarked, “I cry whenever I hear the killing of a human being, whether a child or an adult.”
“We are not pleased with the amount of blood that has been shed. Nigeria’s president is not content either.
Akpabio emphasized that Nigerians themselves must make a collective commitment to achieving sustainable peace, as external intervention is not an option.
“Peace won’t come from people outside. It is up to us to bring about peace. It is imperative that we coexist peacefully. Peace is necessary for Nigeria to advance, he said.
The President has instructed the federal government to step up efforts to put a stop to violence in the state, the Senate President reassured the people of the Plateau.
“I want to reassure the people of Plateau State that their concerns will be taken seriously,” he declared.
Akpabio noted that many of the international reports being mentioned today are based on occurrences documented more than ten years ago, and he linked much of the current insecurity to previous rounds of violence.
“Everything began in 2010. Reports created in 2010 make up the majority of the reports you hear about being used abroad. As a governor at the time, I was aware of the widespread deaths,” he remarked.
He continued by saying that the administration is dedicated to stopping the trend, even if it is impossible to dispute the extent of the fatalities, displacement, and destruction.
According to Akpabio, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to bringing peace and stability back to the country, not just in the Plateau.
He declared, “We will do everything in our power to guarantee your peace.”
He emphasized that peace must be the top priority for anyone hoping to rule the Plateau. “Anyone who is going to govern the Plateau needs to be dedicated to peace.” “This is the only group that is concerned about you,” Akpabio continued.
The Senate President urged citizens to back President Tinubu and the APC, claiming that collaboration with the federal government will lead to more state development.
He urged that all residents must embrace peace and unity since they are essential to the advancement of the country.
