In light of the PDP’s escalating national crisis, the Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has repudiated people posing as its delegates at the party’s convention in Ibadan, cautioning that no legitimate delegates from the state participated in the exercise.
In a statement published on his official Facebook page late on Saturday, the party’s state chairman, Aliyu Jalam Gumel, made the disclaimer that Jigawa PDP was not represented at the convention.
His stance was taken just hours after the Ibadan meeting proceeded in spite of a new Federal High Court ruling that stopped it and reiterated former governor Sule Lamido’s ability to run for party leadership.
According to Gumel, imposters posing as Jigawa’s elected representatives have been spreading misleading information online.
“We are not represented by these imposters.” He wrote, “Jigawa PDP is dedicated to sincere reconciliation and legal procedures that unite, not divide, our wonderful party.”
Anybody posing as a Jigawa delegate at the Ibadan convention, he continued, was nothing more than “a fraudster.”
The chairman emphasized that the Federal High Court’s ruling reinstating Lamido’s right to run for chairperson was consistent with the chapter’s choice to abstain from the convention.
“Under my direction, the Jigawa chapter has completely boycotted the event. This position is in line with the court ruling that favors Lamido’s involvement in party procedures, he said.
Gumel stated that the chapter would only engage in inclusive and legal party activities.
“We will not be attending the convention,” he declared. “The ruling demonstrates Jigawa’s commitment to internal reconciliation initiatives and legal mandates.”
Gumel expressed concern about the party’s current situation and bemoaned the PDP’s internal strife.
“The way our party affairs are being handled, especially with the current crisis shaking its foundations, is saddening,” he stated.
He underlined that Jigawa PDP remained dedicated to reestablishing unity in spite of the unrest.
“Our chapter is determined to only take part in procedures that will bring our party together.” He pleaded, “We call on leaders to find a solution to this crisis and reach out to all aggrieved parties.”
The chairman reiterated the chapter’s stance and advised the public not to acknowledge anyone posing as Jigawa’s representative.
“The PDP’s Jigawa State Chapter has disassociated itself from the current convention. He cautioned that anyone posing as a delegate from Jigawa State is a scammer.
