Sowore Presses Authorities to Arrest Senator Ned Nwoko Over Rights Violations

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and former African Action Congress presidential candidate, has demanded that Senator Ned Nwoko of Delta North be immediately suspended and arrested on charges ranging from illegal detention and abuse of state security agencies to cross-border sex trafficking.

In a video posted on his 𝕏 account on Sunday, Sowore made the claim, arguing that the situation went far beyond the purported unlawful arrest of Samuel Ojeogwu, also known as Sammy West, the brother of Regina Daniels.

“The outcry surrounding Senator Ned Nwoko goes far beyond the illegal detention of his now-estranged wife, Regina Daniels’ brother, Sammy West,” he declared. What we are seeing is a part of a wider, concerning trend involving the abuse of state power and the international exploitation of young girls.

Sowore claimed that Nwoko had a lengthy history of violating human rights with the help of Nigeria Police Force agents, whom he referred to as “now-disgraced” officers serving as the legislator’s “private enforcers.”

He said, “This so-called billionaire was just locking people up.” Nine individuals who had been imprisoned by the same Ned Nwoko from his village were discovered when we arrived at the prison.

Sowore went on to say that Nwoko had previously “hijacked” a woman’s father after a disagreement, and that multiple families had openly accused the Senator of oppressing them using the police.

“Anyone who is a public figure, who is in political office, our duty, first and foremost, is to hold them to account, no matter how powerful they are,” he said.

Additionally, the activist charged the Senator with “international sex trafficking crimes,” claiming that he trafficked young girls into Nigeria from Morocco and other nations.

He made it clear that the goal of his intervention was to address what he called the systematic abuse of police and political power rather than to defend Regina Daniels.

“I’m not fighting for Regina Daniels,” stated Sowore. I’m battling against a Nigerian senator who is abusing his position of authority by working with the country’s police and has a history of oppressing people with the police.

Timothy Gabriel (Turmar), a TikToker, was arrested after making allegations regarding Regina Daniels’ children.

“The Senator procured the Nigerian police, got Turmar arrested, and sent him to prison,” he claimed. He was so severely beaten when he emerged that he had to apologize.

He also described his personal encounter with nine prisoners in 2021 who were purportedly imprisoned at Nwoko’s request due to a property dispute pertaining to the Senator’s Sports University project.

Sowore accused Nwoko’s acts of being made possible by the Nigeria Police Force.

“The Nigerian police have given Ned a great deal of support,” he stated. Every day, they have dinner at his house. The Nigerian police should be ashamed for selling their force for nothing.

The activist stated that his demand for accountability was part of a larger fight against human rights abuses and impunity ingrained in Nigeria’s political and security establishments.
