The removal of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been praised by Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, a former governor of Niger State.
Wike was reportedly ejected by the PDP during its national convention on Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State. National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose were both suspended.
Aliya responded to the development by saying that the cancer that had been plaguing the PDP had been eradicated.
As part of events commemorating the late Nnamdi Azikiwe’s 121st posthumous birthday, he made this statement in Abuja during the 6th Zik’s Awards Lecture.
The former governor expressed optimism that the removal of Wike and his associates will allow the party to proceed.
“Like surgeons, we remove a cancer, the cancer that has been a part of our party and has crippled the party,” Aliyu stated.
“We hope that the party will be able to move and give Nigerians a choice after the cancer is removed.”
Additionally, he cautioned against establishing a one-party state in the nation, citing the dire repercussions.
“We shall bear the consequences if we make the error of establishing a one-party state in Nigeria. Therefore, it is beneficial that we provide the Nigerian people with an option,” he continued.
