Bassey Otu, the governor of Cross River State, has issued an order dissolving the Local Government Service Commission Board.
He clarified in a statement issued on Tuesday that the decision was made in response to allegations of mismanagement and abuse of office in the commission’s recent hiring process.
“My dear people of Cross River State, I want to inform you that I have dissolved the Board of the Local Government Service Commission,” he said. This is due to the fact that throughout the most recent hiring process, we found significant instances of office misuse and dishonesty.
Governor Otu called the irregularities “unjust” and “unacceptable,” saying that such behavior undermines true governance and erodes public trust in the administration.
“What occurred was unjust and wrong. It betrayed your faith in us.
“The recruitment process that was previously halted will continue to be suspended.
Otu declared, “We will restart it properly, clean, open, and based on merit, so that only qualified people get the jobs.”
He also gave the people his word that he would not put up with any kind of corruption among public servants or in the administration, pointing out that such actions impede the progress of the state.
“We will continue to take strong steps to make our institutions honest and trustworthy,” he said.
“By working together, we can create a better Cross River State where everything is done correctly,” Otu said.
