The ruling in the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, or IPOB, has been halted by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
However, the court will meet again today (Thursday) at 4:50 p.m. to issue the sentence.
Following Kanu’s conviction on the seven-count charge brought by the Nigerian government, Justice James Omotosho made this statement.
In the meantime, the Nigerian government has called for Kanu to be executed.
Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, the Federal Government’s attorney, informed the court that Kanu was accused and found guilty under portions of the law that carried the death penalty with no other choice.
