The European Union (EU) and the Benue State Government will collaborate to address the humanitarian issues that internally displaced people (IDPs) from violent attacks in the state are facing.
It has started a program to improve stakeholders’ comprehension of the State Durable Solutions Program’s (SIDPIN) participatory planning process.
Tema Ager, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management’s Information Officer, revealed this in a statement in Makurdi.
He said that the initiative, which focuses on the local integration of internally displaced people in Benue, would address the urgent issue of the substandard living conditions that displaced people and their host communities must deal with.
Aondowase Kunde, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, spoke on behalf of Governor Hyacinth Alia, who promised to restore internally displaced people (IDPs) to their ancestral homes in safety and dignity.
Kunde revealed that the program’s experimental phase would start in the local government areas of Guma and Gwer West, with additional local government areas to be added later.
He emphasized that the workshop is an essential step in enhancing IDPs’ quality of life through sustainable local urban integration.
According to Kunde, the Alia administration is collaborating with the European Union and other relevant parties to create a comprehensive plan for the local integration of internally displaced people (IDPs), with an emphasis on strengthening community resilience and offering long-term solutions.
