Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has underlined that the N4.237 trillion 2026 budget plan must precisely match the demands of the populace, tackling urgent social and economic issues.
During Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s official presentation of the 2026 Appropriations Bill at the Lagos Assembly complex on Tuesday, Obasa made the statements.
A N4.237 trillion plan known as the “Budget of Shared Prosperity” was reportedly submitted by the governor to parliamentarians for consideration and approval.
Speaker: The budget should support economic
resilience, enhance security, boost welfare, and promote sustainable infrastructure development in all Lagos neighborhoods.
The state’s current standing, he said, is the product of “hard work, creativity, and laws that encourage innovation and excellence among our people.”
Obasa continued by reflecting on the accomplishments of the Assembly under his direction, pointing out that in the last ten years, the legislature has passed over 1,500 resolutions and more than 100 legislation with the goal of strengthening governance and improving the lives of its citizens.
Obasa praised Governor Sanwo-Olu and his group for putting forth a thorough budget that reflects Lagos’ dedication to development and inclusivity.

He emphasized that unity, inclusive policies, strategic planning, and governance based on respect for human freedom are what make the state strong.
“Our progress is built not on arrogance but on collective effort, sophistication, and a forward-looking vision,” he stated, adding that choices about the 2026 budget must be made with these values in mind.
The Speaker pointed out that the Assembly has continuously assisted the executive in passing legislation that strengthens local government systems, fosters socioeconomic growth, and improves institutional frameworks for efficient governance.
He also praised the governor for maintaining important infrastructure projects that strengthen Lagos’ position as a major economic center while managing economic difficulties with caution and fortitude.
Obasa noted that important areas including healthcare, education, transportation, security, and governance—all of which are essential for maintaining long-term progress—are given priority in the proposed budget.
He urged lawmakers to carefully review the bill to make sure it represents the interests of Lagos citizens as a whole.
Obasa acknowledged that the Renewed Hope Agenda has produced noticeable gains for the country and thanked President Bola Tinubu for his efforts.
