Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, a federal politician, has denounced his fellow National Assembly members for how they have handled the country’s security issue.
Speaking at plenary on Wednesday, Abaribe asserted that his colleagues frequently focus on the past rather than the present.
He claimed that members of the ruling party consistently find ways to compare the insecurity of 2025 to that of 2015, when the PDP was in control.
Since the two insecurity scenarios are distinct, he contended that this is not required.
Abaribe further criticized President Bola Tinubu for not using his position as “Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces” to look into the Kebbi state governor’s allegations that a higher authority ordered troops to leave Maga village before to the kidnapping of the 25 schoolgirls by bandits.
“Every day, we are told to be patriotic,” he said. This place is telling us not to speak up against… “Oh, you should concentrate on the present and not talk about the past,” we are instructed.
However, on this floor, instead of concentrating on what we are meant to discuss, we revert to saying things like, ‘Oh, the Chibok girls happened in 2015, and oh, we are now rescuing people. People weren’t saved at the time.
“17 local administrations in Katsina did not have parallels with bandits during Chibok. In Kebbi, people were only moving to the metropolitan regions to remain, not all of the rural ones. No one was being abducted in Niger.
“So why do we always need to discuss today’s problems and then start looking for justifications for today’s shortcomings?
“Let’s make the correct decision. Although we do not hold this government responsible for its current situation, they should act morally since they are the ones in charge.
