Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, boldly said that President Bola Tinubu would win the state’s 2027 presidential election.
The governor promised to step down if the state’s president is not elected in 2027 in an interview with prominent journalist Babajide Otitoju.
Okpebholo emphasized that Edo’s citizens were fully aligned ahead of 2027, citing state initiatives and governance advancements made since the All Progressives Congress (APC) came to power.
He declared, “Everyone in this state supports Asiwaju; there is no opposition here in Edo.”
Only a few weeks after Okpebholo’s administration launched new state-level infrastructure initiatives, the video clip of the interview has reportedly continued to trend online with conflicting comments.
The governor acknowledged that he is not as influential in state politics as the president is.
According to Okpebholo, “Tinubu is more popular than me in Edo State.”
“I will step down if he does not win the Edo presidential election in 2027.”
“If he doesn’t win in 2027, I will resign,” Okpebholo continued, restating his threat.
“People in Edo are already aware that Asiwaju’s influence is the reason behind my actions. Let me inform you. Because there is no opposition in Edo, you will witness the kind of outcome that would emerge from this.
