‘A Joke!’ — Datti Baba-Ahmed Slams Tinubu Over State of Emergency on Insecurity

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, a former vice presidential candidate, has called President Bola Tinubu’s new security strategy “a joke” that fails to address the underlying reasons of insecurity.

In an interview with Arise News, Datti claimed that Tinubu’s proclamation of a national security emergency “has completely missed the point.”

He maintained that the government’s strategy was corrupted, wasteful, and misdirected.

“He has entirely lost the point.

It’s absurd to declare a state of emergency. “Leave it there,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed went on to criticize the President’s proposal to quickly hire and train thousands of new employees.

According to him, a shortage of personnel is not the reason behind the country’s current security dilemma.

It’s not about the numbers. The goal is to lessen corruption in the fight against insecurity.

How much of the funds allocated for security will actually be used for the fight, and how much will go toward the elections in 2027? Nigeria will become secure only that corruption is eliminated,” he contended.

He asserted that the police could quickly eradicate banditry provided they were not subjected to political meddling.

The Nigerian military should be removed. In two months, the Nigerian police alone can eradicate insecurity. Give them support, eliminate political interest, and eliminate corruption, and they will succeed,” he declared.

Regarding the administration’s overall performance, Baba-Ahmed remarked, “This government is skating on thin ice.” You are astounded by how thin the ice is. We are in a risky scenario.
