For the past several weeks, social media has been abuzz with diverse emotions, with some netizens expressing surprise at rumours of a marriage crash between Nollywood actress Anita Joseph and her husband, Fisayo Olagunju, popularly known as MC Fish.
Numerous celebrity divorces have reportedly occurred in Nigeria’s entertainment industry over the years.
Some of these marriages quietly terminate with little to no social media drama, while others end in chaotic social media tragedies including allegations and angry arguments between partners.
In this article, it highlights six renowned celebrities who terminated their marriages with little or no social media controversy.
First. Anita Joseph and MC Fish: Online rumors circulated in November 2025 that Anita Joseph and MC Fish’s marriage had failed due to alleged infidelity and domestic abuse.
Celebrity journalist, Stella Dimoko Korkus, in a post on Instagram, confirmed that Anita and MC Fish had gone their own ways and does not want to make any press remark addressing the issue.
According to the SDK, insiders privy to the situation indicated that once MC Fish joined the Freemason brotherhood, things took a downhill with their family, with both managing until they could no longer hold it together.
Anita hasn’t confirmed or refuted the rumors since. The movie star clarified that she will talk when she is ready in a statement that was posted on her Instagram page.
Two. Sabinus and Ciana Chapman: In 2023, Nigerian skit artist, Sabinus and his UK-based lover, Ciana Chapman, got married in a private ceremony.
However, in 2024, the marriage became a source of debate with allegations of their marital troubles as Sabinus was accused of domestic violence, infidelity and being an absentee father to their daughter.
During a TikTok live stream session with his colleague, Carter Efe, Sabinus confirmed that he was not married, underlining that his marriage ended quietly.
The skit maker added that he and his daughter’s mother remain on good terms.
3. Basketmouth and Elsie Okpocha: In December 2022, Nigerian comedian, Bright Okpocha, commonly known as Basketmouth, and his wife, Elsie Okpocha, generated a commotion on social media as they openly announced their separation after twelve years of marriage.
The ex-couple never engaged in any drama or callouts on social media, despite the outcry at the time.
4. AY and Mabel Makun: Nigerian ace comedian cum filmmaker, Ayo Makun, commonly known as AY, formally announced his separation from his wife, Mabel, on April 7, 2024. In a statement made on his Instagram page at the time, AY cited unsolved concerns and claimed he would not divulge the facts of his personal family matters to the public.
Since the termination of their union, neither AY nor Mabel has made public comments against each other online.
5. 2Baba and Annie Macaulay: After 12 years of marriage, Nigerian music icon, Innocent Idibia, also known as 2Baba, on January 26, 2025, revealed that his partnership with his wife, Annie, had terminated.
While Annie refused to address issues with the marriage publicly, 2Baba has already moved on with his new wife, Natasha Osawaru, a senator in Edo state.
6. Ninalowo Bolanle and Bunmi: Bolanle Ninalowo, a Nollywood actor, announced the dissolution of his 18-year marriage in October 2023. The movie star claimed he and his wife had mutually opted to split their marriage owing to irreconcilable disagreements, and he requested the public to respect their privacy.
Neither of them has made any public comments regarding the other since then.
