A major success has been recorded by Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) troops in Borno State, with the killing of a terrorist leader, his cameraman, and several insurgents, the Joint Task Force reported on Friday.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for OPHK, said the operation occurred on Thursday when terrorists, operating from the Mandara Mountains, attempted to infiltrate a military base in Bitta. Troops responded with coordinated defensive fire, successfully neutralizing the threat.
The statement added:
“Troops, supported by advanced surveillance systems, detected terrorists advancing at about 0030 hours on 18 December 2025. Using tactical restraint, the troops allowed the terrorists to reach optimal engagement positions before opening fire. This operation led to the neutralisation of several insurgents, including a key terrorist leader and his cameraman.”
Following the engagement, the Air Component carried out precision strikes on retreating insurgents, further reducing their numbers. Troops later conducted detailed area checks, recovering significant terrorist equipment, including AK-47 rifles, PKT machine guns, magazines, radios, mobile phones, a camcorder, motorcycles, and bicycles. Blood trails and shallow graves suggested more casualties among the terrorists.
The Joint Task Force confirmed that troops remain motivated and operationally effective, as security efforts continue to protect local communities and restrict terrorist movements.
