Marriage Is Overrated, Says Yvonne Jegede

Yvonne Jegede, a Nollywood actress, has shared her thoughts on marriage, saying she believes it is overrated.

The 42-year-old actress reportedly stated that although she is not actively seeking a second marriage, she is open to the notion if it occurs spontaneously.

In an interview with Naija FM, Jegede clarified that many relationships alter after marriage, with long-term partners occasionally ending their relationship quickly.

She questioned whether marriage as an institution always makes relationships better, arguing that it frequently fosters intolerance.

It could be preferable, she added, to just meet someone you love and move in together without being married.

“I am not looking for remarriage, but I am open to it if it comes,” she stated. I now know better than to say “never.”

In my opinion, marriage is overrated. Many people who dated for ten to fifteen years ended up getting married and then divorcing within two to three years. There are moments when you wonder why these couples didn’t just stay single. Because there is a great deal of intolerance when the marital tag is added.

“I believe that living with the person you love is preferable.”

Remember that the actress’s prior marriage to Olakunle Abounce Fawole terminated in less than a year in 2019.

She cited her ex-husband’s incapacity to manage the relationship and treat her with respect as well as financial difficulties as the reasons for their breakup.

In previous interviews, Jegede acknowledged that she had been the primary provider during the marriage and expressed sorrow for putting love ahead of financial stability.
