On Wednesday, bandits raided the royal house of HRH Oba Simeon Olaonipekun, a traditional ruler, and abducted him together with one of his children, Olaolu, a serving NYSC member, causing tension in the Ile Ere village of Ifelodun region of Kwara State.
At around 8:30 p.m., eight gunmen allegedly broke into the palace, firing intermittently into the air and forcing their way into the inner chambers to abduct the monarch and his accompanying son.
A family source who was at the palace during the incident told reporters that the attackers seemed to have come especially for the monarch and his wife, according to Vanguard.
Around 8:00 p.m., I saw some odd activity outside and I informed people inside. The insider stated, “We started locking doors and turning off lights, but as soon as they realized this, they started shooting.”
He continued by saying that the shooters used their weapons to smash through the palace doors and demanded to see the king.
The source claims that after emerging from concealment, Olaolu, one of the monarch’s sons who is presently enrolled in the National Youth Service Corps, or NYSC, program, was also taken away.

When this report was filed, attempts to elicit a response from Kwara State Police Command were unsuccessful because Ejire Adeyemi, the public relations officer, did not return calls.
