‘A Musical Genius from Nigeria’ – Obama Pays Tribute to Fela Kuti in New Podcast Series
In a new audio series highlighting the remarkable art and activism of Afrobeat artist Fela Anikulapo Kuti, former US President Barack Obama has paid tribute to the singer.
In a new podcast series called “Fela Kuti: Fear no man,” which is owned by Obama and his wife Michelle, Obama paid tribute to him on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
Obama showed his admiration for the late Afrobeat pioneer and political activist in a video posted to his Instagram site.
“I really love him,” he said, admitting that his adoration for Fela is personal.
He is a Nigerian musical prodigy.
Obama stated in the film, “I truly love the music that this unique figure in musical history made.”
Obama devoted the Fela Kuti: Fear No Man series to honoring musicians who have combined art and activism throughout music history.
According to reports, Fela Kuti, who passed away in 1997, was well-known throughout the world for using his music to criticize Nigeria’s military government and corruption.
