The state government of Abia State has set up a fully furnished laboratory to assess top-notch engineering and construction projects.
Prince Okey Kanu, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, claims that the establishment is one of the tactics used to guarantee that the state’s engineering and construction projects are of the highest caliber.
This is in fulfillment of its intents to stop the ongoing collapse of structures and roads after they are completed, the commissioner stated while addressing journalists in Umuahia on the results of this week’s Abia State Executive Council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
“We are pleased to announce that the laboratory is fully installed and operational at this time,” he said.
The following services are possible in the lab. Among many other capabilities, there are tests for concrete, soil, aggregate, asphalt, flexible pavement, steel reinforcement, non-destructive testing, and field testing.
“This lab’s installation will guarantee the state’s engineering and construction projects are of the highest caliber.”
According to Prince Kanu, the government has progressed its efforts to revitalize the Abia Hotel Limited in Umuahia. This is in keeping with its goal of reviving dormant businesses and preventing the waste of state-owned property.

He declared, “It is important to note that, unlike in the past, no government asset will be permitted to be wasted or misappropriated by government officials under the supervision of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti.”
He took advantage of the occasion to let everyone know that the Abia TechRise ICT Training Cohort 2 is still running strong and has advanced to the point where training may start.
The 850 applicants have had their verification completed at their various local government areas, according to the Abia information commissioner, and the successful applicants will begin training on September 25, 2025.
He noted that the initiative is a component of the state government’s plan to equip its adolescent citizens with ICT skills that will enable them to function in the twenty-first century.
He claims that the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is collaborating with all local government areas in the state to improve its agricultural intervention project in order to advance the food security program in the agricultural sector.
In addition to providing food for the populace, this intervention program will give Abians a source of employment and self-determination.
“Four strong prototype markets will be built across 17 LGAs by the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs,” he announced.
The markets would have 40 local stalls with solar-powered lights to give solar-powered mobile amenities, public conveniences, and solar-powered phone charging pathways, he added. The building would start in two weeks and be completed in batches.
Regarding sports, Kanu underlined that the Abia Soccerfest tournament is now taking place in 17 LAGs and emphasized that the International Leaders’ Summit will be held in the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation from September 22 to September 25, 2025.
He explained that the summit’s goal is to improve the State Ministry of Science and Technology’s cooperation with vendor subsector entrepreneurs in order to boost their use of technology in their operations and raise the caliber of their export-ready goods.
