Senator Stella Oduah, a former minister of aviation, was charged with N5 billion corruption by the Federal Government on Wednesday in the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
Prince Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, tried her on five charges of advance fee fraud and conspiracy.
Stella Oduah was charged on one of the charges with collecting N2.4 billion from the Federal Ministry of Aviation through Broad Waters Resources under false pretenses.
It was alleged that she falsely said that the funds were for technical oversight.
According to reports, the fraud was committed in January of 2014.
In a different count, Stella Oduah was accused of violating Section 8 of the Advance Fee Fraud Act by allegedly collecting N1.6 billion and an additional N839 million using the same methods.
However, the former minister, who was docked with another accused individual, rejected the accusations.
She was granted bail on self-recognition by Judge Hamza Muazu, but she was required to provide the court her travel passport and refrain from leaving Nigeria without the court’s approval.
