Mrs. Valerie Ifueko Agberagba has been elected as the Deputy President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), making her the second woman to hold the prestigious role in the organization’s history.
Kashim Ali, the chairman of the 2025 NSE Election Committee, declared her election at the society’s recent national conference and annual general meeting in Ibadan.
With more than 3,000 votes, Agberagba, a former vice president of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and president of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), won handily. The runner-up received roughly 1,944 votes.
With her triumph, she will work with Ali Rabiu, the incoming NSE President, to guide the organization’s operations for the next two years before taking over as president.
Agberagba was thrilled with the members’ tremendous support in her message of gratitude.
The result, she said, reflected the shared goal of engineers dedicated to advancing the field and equipping the NSE for upcoming challenges.
“Your trust, encouragement, and belief in our shared vision for a stronger, more innovative, and more impactful NSE made this victory possible. It is not just mine,” she said.
She promised to concentrate on strengthening institutional frameworks, promoting professionalism in society, and expanding the role of engineering in the advancement of the country.
“There is no winner or loser in this election; we are partners in progress, and we will continue to work together in unity and purpose,” she continued.
Stakeholders in the engineering community have continued to praise her election, especially those who view it as a significant step forward for woman representation in the field.
