On Wednesday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South) discussed the ongoing departure of opposition senators from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
After Senator Kelvin Chukwu (Enugu East) defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the APC, there was an argument.
Chukwu had claimed that the disintegration of his old party and the breakdown of internal democracy were the reasons behind his decision.
Akpabio reportedly mocked the opposition after reading Senator Chukwu’s letter, claiming he was no longer concerned about their declining numbers.
“All of them can relocate here if they so choose. Akpabio urged opposition groups to organize and stated that all political parties are in ruins, saying, “Your decision to leave a tattered house is accepted.”
“With all due respect, Mr. President, you are the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Senator Abba Moro retorted. We can hold our own regardless of how many people are around.
The senator from Benue also wished Senator Chukwu luck in his new party and voiced alarm over the growing number of defections, claiming the Senate was getting too crowded.
He claimed, “He came here on a sympathy vote and on the Obedient movement, but that’s a story for another day.”
