Akpabio Reveals Reasons Opposition Lawmakers Are Joining APC
According to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the recent surge of opposition party defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is a sign of trust in President Bola Tinubu’s ability to lead.
After escorting Senators Kaila Samaila of Bauchi North and Agom Jarigbe of Cross River North to a meeting with Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday evening, Akpabio reportedly made this statement.
The two MPs recently switched to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking to State House reporters following the meeting, Akpabio claimed that President Tinubu’s economic reforms and dedication to national development were the main reasons why the lawmakers chose to join the APC.
He declared, “They (Jarigbe and Samaila) are Mr. President’s supporters and his children.” The nation’s father and the father of all political parties is the president.
They joined the Federal Republic of Nigeria Senate on various political platforms, but it’s interesting to note that they decided it was more practical to join in order to help build Nigeria because of the President’s policies, which have improved the country’s economy, especially in terms of generating income.
All that is present is patriotism. They care more about who can govern Nigeria, make it better, and place food on Nigerians’ tables than they do about whose political party is in power.
Jarigbe further stated that his belief that Tinubu is doing a commendable job was the reason behind his defection.
As per the legislator, collaborating with Tinubu and the APC is an obvious indication of his backing for the President and his policies that are reorienting the nation.
“I joined the APC because I want to come in and help the president deliver the dividends of democracy to our people, and he is doing really well,” he said.
