Nigerian singer and music executive, Tobi Mohammed, better known by his stage name Alhaji Popping, has opened up about a life-threatening experience that changed his perspective on life and strengthened his faith in God. The artiste recounted how he and his colleague, fellow musician Rayce, survived a terrorist attack in Bauchi State in 2017.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Adesope Live Show, Alhaji Popping narrated how the frightening incident unfolded. According to him, they were ambushed by armed men dressed in military uniforms who unleashed gunfire on their vehicle. In total, the attackers fired ten bullets at the car, causing severe damage, but miraculously, none of the shots struck him or his colleague.
He described the narrow escape as nothing short of divine intervention, explaining that the bullets tore through different parts of the car, including the steering, the air conditioner, the boot, and the wheels. Despite the vehicle being riddled with bullets, the two artistes walked away unharmed.
“Me and Rayce were shot at 10 times in Bauchi in a car in 2017 by guys wearing military uniforms,” he recalled. “If my mom watches this, she’s going to call me and pray for me because I didn’t tell her about the incident. Bullets entered the steering, the wheel, the AC, the boot, but not one touched me.”
The singer admitted that the shocking experience left a lasting mark on his outlook on life. He explained that it has drawn him closer to God and made him deeply appreciative of the role of divine grace in his survival. “The experience is one of the things that have made me very close to God. I realised that everything that has happened to me was an expression of grace,” he said.
Alhaji Popping stressed that surviving such a terrifying ordeal was a reminder of life’s fragility and the importance of faith. For him, the incident not only reaffirmed his spirituality but also inspired him to value every moment and opportunity.
His testimony serves as both a personal reflection and a message of hope, underscoring how grace and resilience can sustain individuals even in the face of seemingly insurmountable danger.
