Rasheedat Ajibade, the captain of the Super Falcons, revealed that the team has yet to get the $100,000 award and additional perks that the Federal Government promised them after they won the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
According to reports, Ajibade expressed her unhappiness over the delay in keeping the vow during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.
Ajibade said, “We have not received our money, but hopefully it would be paid,” in response to Jideonwo’s question on whether the players had gotten the money. We have not received anything, and they have not fulfilled any of their commitments.
The forward, who led the Super Falcons to an unprecedented WAFCON victory, stated that the players are optimistic that the government will fulfill its promise.
President Bola Tinubu awarded all team members and the technical crew the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) following the historic victory in Morocco.
During a reception at the Presidential Villa, the President praised the team for their “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage” and promised a $100,000 cash incentive and a three-bedroom apartment for each player.
It was understood that the Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, also received the award.
