Anambra State Responds to Claims That Soludo Plans to Arrest Catholic Bishops and Priests After Re-election

The government of Anambra State has denied rumors that following his reelection, Governor Charles Soludo intends to detain religious leaders.

According to speculations on social media, if the governor is re-elected, he intends to arrest a number of native doctors and priests.

However, the administration claimed that the reports were untrue in a statement released on Tuesday by Law Mefor, the state commissioner for information.

Mefor rejected the reports as lies intended to disturb the state’s tranquility.

He asked locals to ignore the untrue claims and stated that the governor upholds the liberties and rights of all citizens, especially religious leaders.

The statement said, “A false report claiming that Governor Soludo intends to detain Catholic bishops and priests following his reelection has caught the interest of the Anambra State Government.

We firmly declare that this report is malicious, unfounded, and untrue. It is an obvious instance of disinformation meant to sow discord and disturb tranquility.

This is the result of the shadow opposition’s reliance on propaganda as a result of their unsuccessful campaigns; they ought to take responsibility for their actions.

The people, especially the Catholic Church, are reassured by the Anambra Government that Soludo will uphold their liberties and rights.

“We implore Ndị Anambra to deny this untrue report and to always seek reliable proof before disseminating such divisive tales.”

Mefor went on to say that the government is still dedicated to fighting counterfeit pastors, false Ndi Eze nwanyi, and fake native physicians.

The statement concluded, “In addition, the government will work with the Federal Government to eradicate certificate forgers.”
