Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Peter Odey, have been automatically approved for the 2027 General Election by the All Progressives Congress (APC) branch in Cross River State.
According to reports, APC State Chairman Alphonsus Eba announced this on Monday.
Other than the governor and his deputy, no one else has received an automatic ticket from the party, Eba said, urging other party members who wanted to run for office to start consulting.

He advised other candidates to go back to their voters and ask for their support before the polls.

When the APC’s State Working Committee and State Executive Committee convened today, they decided that Governor Otu will be the party’s only contender in 2027, he stated.
“Nobody alters a successful team. In 2027, the party will fly its flag under the governor and his deputy.

According to the APC chairman, the party would only provide one ticket bearing Otu’s name, just like it did in 2022, even if he was hesitant to run.

“We implore him to hear what the party members want and accept the nomination,” Eba said.

For backing President Bola Tinubu’s activities in Rivers, he also commended the deputy governor, who is currently serving as governor.

Some people have misinterpreted the state’s position, Eba pointed out. Noting that South-South governors had not consulted him prior to challenging Tinubu’s decision, he praised the acting governor for making this clear.

By keeping Rivers peaceful and averting a political catastrophe, he praised the president.
