Governor Sim Fubara has been proclaimed the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State by National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda.
This occurs in the midst of fresh animosity between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over the state’s leadership position.
Fubara had proclaimed himself the APC’s 001 in the state after defecting to the party.
However, Wike disregarded the governor’s position, emphasizing that he is in charge of the state’s political system given that the Peoples Democratic Party and the APC have joined forces to back President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
In response, the APC National Chairman declared that, should Fubara win the party’s primaries, he would back him for a second term.
“Governor Fubara is the leader of the APC in Rivers State, but he would need to coordinate with every other person in the state,” Yilwatda stated in an interview with Channels Television’s Hard Copy.
“I don’t pick a candidate for the state’s primary. I’ll back Fubara if he wins the APC nomination.
“I’ll support him if he loses the primary and support the victor.”
