On October 1, Independence Day, gunmen posing as bandits boldly attacked Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, kidnapping two local government council members in office as well as a civilian.
According to reports, the heavily armed gunmen attacked the Tsauni neighborhood of Gusau at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and dragged their victims into the forest.

According to locals who told reporters about the situation, the kidnapped council members are from the state’s Maradun Local Government Area’s Gidan Gona and Tsibiri wards.

Salihu Bamle, a security analyst, told SaharaReporters that the incident served as yet another reminder of the state’s growing instability.

Bandits invaded the Tsauni neighborhood of Gusau, the capital of Zamfara, on Wednesday evening. Two current council members from the Gidan Gona and Tsibiri wards in Maradun LGA were among the several individuals kidnapped, according to Bamle.

Since then, the kidnapping has been confirmed by the Zamfara State Police Command. The two council members were among the three people abducted during the raid, said to ASP Yazid Abubakar, the command’s spokeswoman.

He promised that in order to find the culprits, operatives had been called in together with other security organizations.

“The command is putting forth endless effort to guarantee the hostages’ safe escape. “There is hope for the future,” ASP Yazid stated.

According to Naija News, the kidnapping occurs as the Federal Government, armed groups, and the Zamfara State Government resume peace negotiations. However, locals claim that bandits still murder, raid, and kidnap people in villages.

The slaughter of victims inside a mosque in Zamfara during evening prayers just lately caused national indignation. Authorities have come under fire for not supporting peace negotiations with forceful security measures.

The Independence Day attack on Wednesday is seen by many residents as just another somber reminder that peace is still a long way off.
