The current government of Benue State has established a committee with the mission of reclaiming all of the stolen government property from the previous administration.
You may recall that Governor Hyacinth Alia, speaking through his Chief Press Secretary Tersoo Kula a few days ago, denounced the stealing of government cars that occurred during the leadership of the most recent government, which was led by Samuel Ortom.
According to what Tersoo had said, “The PDP robbed administration House to the extent that the new administration under governor Hyacinth Alia, met not a single automobile or truck in government house.” The governor’s tours of state ministries and parastatals have shown “the highest level of rot ever experienced in the history of Benue State.”
Despite the fact that the former Special Adviser to the governor who just left office, Terver Akase, in his response indicated that the State Executive Council of the previous administration gave a waiver to government personnel so that they may travel with their official vehicles, Terver Akase contradicted this statement.
Akase had stated that “On the matter of automobiles, the present administration may wish to be told that the Benue State Executive Council resolved that government personnel including the Governor and his Deputy be given waivers to enable them to proceed with the official vehicles that were allocated to them.” Akase had made this statement.
As a result, Governor Ortom did not violate any laws when he stepped down from his position while still maintaining possession of the government vehicles assigned to him.
Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, issued a statement on Sunday saying that the Governor has established an assets recovery committee both at the state and local government levels.
The statement read in parts, “Benue state Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia has inaugurated two Assets Recovery Committees. One is to work at the state level, while the other is at the Local Government level.
The government of Benue State has created a commission with the objective of recovering all of the stolen government property from the administration that came before them.
Remember that Governor Hyacinth Alia recently accused the previous government led by Samuel Ortom of stealing government automobiles through his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula. This was done through his office.
Tersoo had stated that “the PDP looted administration House to the extent where the new administration under governor Hyacinth Alia met not a single motor or truck in government house.” The level of corruption that was discovered across Benue State’s various agencies and parastatals during the governor’s visits is at its highest point in the state’s history.
Terver Akase, who served as a former special adviser to the governor who has since left office, made a statement in which he claimed that the State Executive Council of the administration that came before the current one had granted permission for government workers to travel in their official vehicles.
Regarding autos, Akase was quoted as saying, “The current administration may wish to be told that the Benue State Executive Council resolved that government workers, including the Governor and his Deputy, be given waivers to enable them to travel in the official vehicles assigned to them.” Akase was referring to a decision made by the Benue State Executive Council.
As a direct consequence of this, Governor Ortom did not violate any laws when he left the building in the official vehicles that were provided to him.
In spite of this, the principal press secretary for the governor, Tersoo Kula, issued a statement in which she claimed that the governor had established an assets recovery committee at both the state and municipal government levels.
Members of the committee have a number of responsibilities, one of which is to inventory all of the government’s assets, which may include lands, automobiles, homes, furniture, and other types of equipment.
According to the notification, representatives from various security agencies will be participating in the recovery operation.
Members of the asset recovery committee include Barr. Joe Abaagu, a former state attorney general; Hingah Biem, a former permanent secretary; Dennis Akura; Ioryue Yajir; Peter Egbodo; Joseph Ojob; Jonathan Modi; Shaageer Matins; Yuhe Jerome; Tom Uja; and Tormbuwua Terlumun, who serves as member and secretary of the committee.
At the level of the local government, there are members including Jude Tyo, Aondowase Apera, Kwaghgba Amande, Richard Dzungweve, Anthony Sende, Olofu Ogwuche, Terver Kachina, and Nick Eworo, who serves as Member Secretary.
According to the announcement, the Department of State Security, the Police, the Military, and the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps will each have capable representatives on both of the committees.
In a same manner, the Governor of Benue State has appointed members to a fact-finding commission for Benue State University.
Jacob Ajene, Terkimbi Ikyange, Prof. Eugene Alyegbe, and Agbo Ochekpe serve as members of the committee, and Paul Biam serves as the committee’s chairman. Agbo Ochekpe serves as member and secretary.
