As the Senate Minority Leader and representative of the Benue South Senatorial District, Senator Abba Moro’s office has rejected assertions from the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Zone C Chapter, calling them deceptive and driven by politics.
The senator’s office said in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, that the recent assault on his reputation was a “feeble attempt” by the council chairmen to curry favor with their political benefactor.
The statement stressed that Senator Moro’s criticism of the state government is rooted on a profound concern for governance issues, such as nepotism, insensitivity, poor administration, and disrespect for the law, and that it is not personal.
The statement said, “Senator Moro has nothing personal against Governor Alia.”
“His critiques are meant to draw attention to problems that the residents of Zone C face, such as insecurity and unequal access to opportunities and projects.”
The senator’s office went on to highlight his legislative and developmental accomplishments, noting that he had signed three establishment bills into law in quick succession, carried out verifiable projects in all Zone C local government areas, and equipped thousands of young people with white-collar jobs and skills.
According to the statement, “this stands in sharp contrast to the local government chairmen, who have failed to provide basic amenities like schools, roads, bridges, and hospitals despite having access to substantial resources.”
The chairmen’s attack on Moro was described by the senator’s staff as “a show of shame against the people of Zone C” rather than a personal grudge, raising doubts about their grasp of government.
